Pathway Forward 2.0
Pathway Forward 2.0 is the latest agreement signed between the Carrier Sekani First Nations (CSFNs), the and the Province of British Columbia. This agreement marks a turning point in the relationship between the seven Carrier Sekani First Nations (CSFNs) and the Province of BC. It provides the CSFNs with a path to self-government, meaningful opportunities to share decision-making over their territories, and a revenue sharing structure that will strengthen our communities.
This agreement supports Carrier Sekani Rights now and into the future. This agreement is not a treaty, it is title by negotiation.
Measures in the agreement include:
- An economic development fund to support CSFN participation in the regional economy.
- A wealth fund that will be invested to generate ongoing revenues to support growth and development in CSFN communities.
- Funding for socio-cultural programs to revitalize Carrier and Sekani languages and culture.
- Provisions for Carrier Sekani First Nations to build on governance processes and structures, with a goal of full self-government.
- Accommodation for impacts on the land from forest and range activities in the territory, which will create predictability for economic development in the region.
- Capacity funding for implementing the agreement and continuing negotiations on a long-term, comprehensive reconciliation agreement between Carrier Sekani First Nations and the provincial and federal government.
- The Pathway Forward Agreement marks a turning point for our Nations, both for our ability to make decisions over our own territories, and to have stable revenue to plan for our future. Previous attempts at regaining our rights to our territories went nowhere. Here is a short timeline of important events that have led us to this agreement.
